Privacy notice — Year 3 Mental Maths Challenge
Frooble is run by Sal Whittaker. This notice explains what information we collect for the challenge, why, and what we do with it. If you have any questions, email salmanwhittaker@gmail.com.
What we collect
- From you, when you sign up: your email address, your child's first name (never their surname), their school and town, how you heard about us, and your answers to the two consent boxes.
- While your child plays: which levels they have completed, their stars and scores, and how long they have played.
- How the game is used: usage information such as which levels are played and how questions are answered, linked to your child's login code rather than their name. We use this only to improve the game.
Why we use it
- To set up your child's login and send you their picture PIN and links.
- To show you their progress on your parent dashboard.
- To send you a short weekly email with the challenge leaderboard and reminders.
- To rank schools on the leaderboard. The leaderboard shows school names and totals only — never children's names.
- To make your child's certificate at the end of the challenge.
- Only if you tick the box: to tell your child's school how they did (their first name and results), so the school can celebrate with them.
Who can see it
- You, on your parent dashboard (only for children linked to your email).
- Sal Whittaker, who runs the challenge.
- Your child's school — only if you ticked the box, and only your child's first name and results.
- We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Where it's stored
Sign-up forms are handled by Netlify, game progress is stored with Google Firebase, and usage information with PostHog (on its EU servers). These are well-known services that keep data secure; Netlify and Firebase may store or process data on servers in the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while the challenge runs and for a short time afterwards to send certificates. We'll delete it by 31 March 2027, unless you ask us to keep your child's account so they can carry on playing.
Your choices
- You can ask to see the information we hold, have it corrected, or have it deleted at any time — just email us.
- You can change your mind about sharing with your child's school at any time.
- You can stop the weekly emails at any time using the link in the email.
- If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
